Review: Seaora / Adovia Moisturizing Day Cream

What a lovely emollient! Somehow luxurious upon first use… slick and smooth, but not greasy or… well, gross.

Adovia Moisturizing Day CreamBasics: First ingredient – water, both demineralized & Dead Sea. Seems a good start for a moisturizer! As with all of the products I’ve tried from the Seaora (Adovia) line, this is nice, natural & non-irritating!

Extravagance: I love the way this cream smells. It has that signature Seaora (Adovia) scent. I cannot place it, but it brings back fond memories of my childhood – specific to a beloved Auntie that always loved me and accepted me (even through the ugly teen years). I picked through the ingredients to try my best to identify the scent – and here are some possible elements of this deeeeeeeelishus olfactory delight: Bergamot Oil, Grape Seed Oil, Chamomile… and maybe even Papaya.

Imperfections: It’s a day cream without sunblock. This goes against my very being (I exagerate), but it seems unfair. I love this cream, but I must must must use sunblock – I live in California & have a fair complexion. Grrr.

To Sum it Up: Yay! This is also an amazing night cream – thick and effective without leaving an oil slick on your face! And, though there is no claim of such on the packaging, I’ve found that it is evening out my blotchy red tones. Woohooooo!

Review: Adovia Dead Sea Mud Soap

Soap. What can anyone say about soap? Seriously.

Some soaps smell super perfumey. Some leave a slick residue. Some break you out. Some don’t last very long. Some soaps suck.

This one… I can’t say ANY of those things about this soap.

Adovia Dead Sea Mud SoapBasics: Well, uh, it’s soap… with “Pure Dead Sea Mud and Minerals.” That’s a good start. 1st ingredient: Dead Sea Mud. It is virtually unscented (there’s a slight smell, but it’s not a “scent” per se… like, you don’t smell like this soap when you get out of the shower. It’s last ingredient is fragrance. I can’t smell it. Also, it washes off sooooooo clean. When you use it, you actually feel like you just got out of the shower. Not a joke… I mean, I feel really clean. And, the bar lasts for a very very long time. It doesn’t just turn into a gooey mess, and wash down the drain. Plus, it’s black.

Extravagance: IT DIDN’T BREAK ME OUT! Okay, you have heard me complain about my stupid sensitive, acne prone skin for a while now. I used this on my face for a month… and no major catastrophic breakout. Yipeeeeeee!

Imperfections: It is a tiny bit drying for me. I moisturize faithfully, and my skin is buttery soft… so nothing dramatic here. My husband, who also used the soap daily, is not a big moisturizer, and his skin loves this soap.

To sum it up: Yep! If you are a fan of the Dead Sea Mud – here’s your chance to get the fab results with a lot less mess.

A note to those of you with skin conditions: I think this stuff would be GREAT for you as well. It’s very mild. One thing to consider is the last ingredient (fragrance); the actual ingredient listing is “natural extract” so it may be worth a try. Let me know.

Here’s a full list of the ingredients, in case you want to know:

Dead sea mud (silt), 80% palm/20% palm kernel oil, dead sea salts, magnesium, sodium, potassium, demineralized water (aqua), natural extract (fragrance).

Review Seaora /Adovia Dead Sea Mineral Mud

Spring has sprung, and the promise of Summer is upon us! Hallelujah!! I don’t live in an especially cold climate — okay, it’s Southern California, and I’ve never lived anywhere else. So, while 65 degree weather may not be cold by any standard, I use it as an excuse to wear my kicky winter coat.

But for those of you living where the winter climate is wet, freezing, blustery and downright damaging to your skin… now is the time to start making reparations to the inevitable damages of winter weather!

You all know of my love for scrubs and moisturizers, and they are great for both repair and maintenance, but there is so much more you can do!

Cleanse your body, purify your skin, and slough off the winter chafing now… with the magic of the Dead Sea. You already know about the healing powers of the Dead Sea, now it is time to try it. I dare you!

Basics: It is exactly what it says it is… Dead Sea Mud. The only ingredient. That’s it. Yep, the silt from the shores of the Dead Sea. Mud.
Seaora / Adovia Dead Sea Mineral Mud

Extravagance: It’s from the Dead Sea, people! C’mon, it’s like having a posh resort visit you… and it is a lot less expensive than taking a month off work and carting yourself to far away lands (though perhaps,  a little less exotic.)

Imperfections: This stuff is a right mess.

So, when I suggested to my husband that we try the body mask together, I didn’t consider that our 15 minutes of letting the mask set would really provide for an afternoon of giggles, scrubbing and plain old messy fun!

We first heated some water, and poured it into a bowl. We placed the convenient mud pouch into the water for a few minutes to offer a more soothing “spa” experience, then… we slathered each other in mud (forgive me if I give too much of a visual.) Husband had the idea that perhaps it would be easier to spread, and cover more ground if you will, if he wet his hands a little before grabbing a fistful. Don’t do that. I’m just saying… splatter and drippings all over our pristine white tile.

Then, we covered our couch in towels, and sat down to watch part of a movie we had DVR’d. As the mud dried, we felt stiffer and stiffer… and the humor got crazier and crazier — we imagined ourselves on the Planet of the Apes; we made more than one attempt at “the robot” ; we had the best time!

Once dry, we jumped into the shower, imagining the mud would slide off of us and we’d feel refreshed and cleansed…. Have you ever tried to rinse off caked on, dried on mud? We laughed, we cried, we ruined a wash cloth… and the mud came off… revealing rosy, clear, clean and soft skin. Yay!

To sum it up: Get this mask! Make an afternoon of it. Have fun!!!! Totally worth the mess. Also, when done with the mask, moisturize moisturize MOISTURIZE!! Any type of cleansing this good requires a good replenish on the moisture when you’re done.

There is enough mud in the bag for roughly 2 full body slatherings… I suggest you work as a team!

Review: Swisa Beauty Sensation Dead Sea Gentle Exfoliating Body Wash

Swisa Beauty Milk and Honey Body WashOMG! Yummy! Yummy! Yummy!

Basics: Liquid soap with very light amounts of exfoliating granules. Comes in a convenient bottle with the top on the bottom (so you’ll never have to try to balance the bottle on its head to get the last little bit of your product out). Is best used with a wash cloth or sponge to maximize the effects of the very subtle exfoliation qualities. Use circular motions to achieve near perfection (I followed the instructions directly from the back of the bottle… and I agree. Whole-heartedly!)

Extravagance: Smells so good! I used the Milk & Honey variety, and cannot even explain how delicious this smell is. Not too strong, and while the scent lingers post-shower, it is not over-whelming at all. Plus, there is no greasy or soapy residue when you get out of the shower. And did I mention that it SMELLS REALLY GOOD?!?

Imperfections: I cannot name one.

To Sum it Up: Try this. Even my husband loves it (and not just because it doesn’t leave the bathtub slippery after I use it.)

Did You Know? Dead Sea salts are good for psoriasis and eczema!

Did you know that Dead Sea salts may help relieve some of the symptoms of psoriasis?

According to the FDA, while it won’t cure your Psoriasis, soaking in a bath with Dead Sea salts may help to remove scales & offer some relief!

For folks suffering from psoriasis, eczema, and other skin disorders, an area of hope has been the Dead Sea itself – bragging over 300 days a year of sunlight, and a most unique mixture of salt &  minerals in the soil, waters & even the air. It is believed that, because of the unique compounds in the air near the Dead Sea, more harmful UVB rays are blocked. That means that people can spend more time in the sun without burning.

And, many people swear that the combination of the Dead Sea waters, sunlight, and mud treatments have greatly improved / reduced the severity and frequency of future skin disorder outbreaks.

If you have a skin disorder, please talk to your doctor before trying Dead Sea products… and read more:

Review: Dead Sea Premier Ageless Future Detoxifying Mask

That’s it! I want an ageless future! I’m just saying that I’m noticing drastic changes to my skin in the last few years – and sister, it ain’t good! I’m getting little wrinkles around my eyes, and of course, the really big ones at and above my brow line that I’ve already told you about.

I’m getting older, and it is frankly not a concept I’m in step with. So, as the next step on my quest to defy the effects of aging, I decided to try the Ageless Future Detoxifying Mask by Dead Sea Premier. Who could deny that the name alone is very enticing?

Ageless Future Detoxifying Mask by Dead Sea PremierBasics: It’s a mask (yep, that’s why it is in the name). It is low maintenance – no special 5-step process or ritual. Simply put, it measures out pretty much as much as you need in 2 pumps. You spread it thinly across your face and neck. It goes to work to detoxify your skin, and “helps to eliminate the four signs of aging: fine lines [I have those], uneven skin tone [don't even get me started], poor skin texture [not yet, but I'm going to fight that], surface dullness [yep.]”

Extravagance: I’ve been trying to find a way to describe how this product feels. I’ve toyed with many over-the-top descriptions… some that I was flat out told were not conveying the magic in it’s workings. So, here’s my non-descriptive description – it foams (actually it’s really more of a bubbling) when you apply it. I let it sit on my skin as all of these tiny, itty-bitty, microscopic bubbles pop. The first time I used it, I giggled. The second time, I giggled. The third… I’m sure you get my point. It tickles, and it feels really good. My husband described it as an “invigorating tingling sensation.”

So, the best thing I can liken it to is having a million little fairies blowing on your face… Meh, maybe that’s going too far. How about hundreds of teeny fingers giving you a massage? I don’t know. I think you’re going to have to try this one yourself.

Also, the packaging is beautiful – small glass bottle, with a good sized pump to make application easy. And you won’t be ashamed to have it out on your counter, if you choose.

Imperfections: None. Seriously. I will, however, offer this advice… moisturize after you use it. It will leave your skin feeling a little tight – which, to those of us who were taught that the #1 key to keeping youthful skin is moisturizing, is a no-no.

To Sum It Up: All-in-all, it is pretty rad. It’s quick enough that you can add it to your morning routine – wash your face in the shower, apply the mask (in lieu of a toner), rinse and moisturize. You will have firm, supple, even-toned skin for the day. I haven’t been using it long enough to speak to the “ageless future”, but I’m hopeful.

Review: Dead Sea Premier Night Cream Complex

Okay, so I’m on the quest for the age controlling products. I have no claim to expect that I will reverse the damage I’ve done to my skin – fair skin in the sun for most of the eighties, and too many years of smoking… but I’ve been diligent enough with my skin care that I don’t look ten years older than I am.

I will always be searching – until I find the perfect products. My most recent trial: Dead Sea Premier’s Night Cream Complex.

Basics: It is a night cream with anti pigmentation elements, and claims to disappear damage done by sun and age. I’m in!

Night Cream Complex

Extravagance: It’s one of the Dead Sea Premier’s double duty products. I love that! There is a gel that you sparingly apply, let sit for 30 seconds, then rinse with water. The gel is supposed to “absorb the oxygen from the water to your skin.” Not sure what that means, but I’m sure it is really cool! And it smells good!

Imperfection: The cream is really heavy, which I’m certain is part of why it works to really moisturize skin. I did have a couple of very small whiteheads pop up the morning after I used the product, but my skin was very smooth and supple.

To sum it up:
The cream may be a bit heavy for my skin, but I think it is mostly in the effect that I can feel it  on my skin. It did not wreck my efforts for clear skin, and left my face feeling and looking fresh. I’ll keep using it, though I have to admit, I probably won’t make it an every night thing.

Review: Adovia / SeaOra Mineral Facial Toner

Stress. It sucks. True story. And you wouldn’t believe what it does to my skin. I’m sure you’ve experienced it too… angry bumps, uneven skin tone, general ickiness. Well, I had the joy of random pimples just showing up about two weeks ago. Eeps!

So, I tried the Mineral Facial Toner. Yay!

Adovia Mineral Facial TonerBasics: It is a mineral toner that promises to refine pores while removing stuff that causes and contributes to acne – dirt and sebum (that’s a secretion from the sebaceous glands that plugs up your pores and causes acne. eww!)

Extravagance: It has NO ALCHOHOL! No drying, no flaking, no red irritated skin. And, it controls shine!

Imperfections: Not a one that I can think of.

To sum it up: It prevented my little blemishes from turning into big old nasties! It eased up the red spots, and my skin is clearing up delightfully!

A funny story, I have a former co-worker who is the biggest fan of this toner (let’s call her Toned in L.A.), and boy was she happy to find it for an affordable price at Dead Sea Market. She’s forty-something, and I have to admit that her skin is fantastic! She completely attributes that to the Mineral Facial Toner. I’m inclined to agree with her.

Review: Dead Sea Premier Anti Aging / Anti Wrinkle Cream

In February, I made a 1 month commitment to try a new skin care routine. I used: Dead Sea Premier Luxury Facial Cleanser (Reviewed on 3/2), Dead Sea Premier Biox Intensive Age Treatment Serum (Reviewed on 3/16), and Dead Sea Premier Anti Aging / Anti Wrinkle Cream.

I was having some trouble with breakouts when I first started the new routine, and figured that it was the standard “starting something new” thing. So, I weathered through for a bit, but finally had to give up the cream. It just didn’t work for me.

Dead Sea Premier Anti Aging CreamBasics: It is very rich, and likely ideal for dry or weathered skin.

Extravagance: It promises to replenish skin, and increase elasticity.

Imperfections: My skin did not like it. First, I used it twice a day, then cut it back to nights only, and finally cut it out of the process.

I would love to hear from people who have had success with this cream, as I fear my skin is too oily to benefit from this product.

Review: Dead Sea Premier Biox Intensive Age Treatment Serum

I have a stern brow-line. It’s bad. More often than not, if I’m sitting at my desk, focusing on my work, people assume I’m doing something I really don’t want to do. I just look angry.

I remember sitting with a coworker at a past job, mixing work with a little bit of social bonding, and he told me that he’d seen a show on TV with an actress that looked a lot like me. He pulled a picture up on his computer to show the other people in his office. I was really flattered… until he said this: “She looks just like you, but happy!”

I’m happy! I’m usually on the verge of giddy. Grrrr, I hate my wrinkles!

So, I tried this: Dead Sea Premier’s Biox Intensive Age Treatment Serum.

Basics: It’s a topical alternative to Botox – a pinkish gel with red specks. You apply it after cleansing and toner (if you use it), and before moisturizer. The tiniest pump will cover my entire forehead and the dread between-the-brows “H” (you know, the creases that imply displeasure.)

Extravagance: The bottle is beautiful. Heavy red glass, with an elegant shape that you’ll want to leave out on your counter. Also, to state the obvious, no excruciatingly painful injections!

Imperfections: The bottle is glass. I’m a klutz. My Biox is now in a tiny food-storage container. I suppose that’s my downfall, not the downfall of the product. <sigh>

All-in-all, I saw improvement. I could feel when a scowl was coming on, and correct it. It didn’t have the same “total freezing” of the muscles that I hear Botox does, but my results were noticed by others as well. Take, for instance, these recent quotes:

“You’ve been very calm lately.”

“Wow, you seem a little distant.”

“You look well-rested.”

I’ll take all of them!!!

Review: Dead Sea Premier Exotica Aromatic Mineral Body Treatment

Yummy!

I’ve used a lot of salt and sugar scrubs in my time, and I love the way they make my skin feel. As I’ve told you before, it’s my favorite pre-shaving treatment for my legs… it just gives me such smooth results.

This one… HERO!

Basics: The Dead Sea Premier Exotica Aromatic Mineral Body Treatment is, of course, a salt scrub. It is not too oily (so less shower slippage), and it smells terrific – which leads me to the extravagance….

Extravagance: This stuff smells awesome. I find myself using less of it because I want it to last longer. You know what! I’m figuring out that a little goes a long long way! It smells a little like a vacation – more tropical than the ingredients would imply. The strongest scent is the almond oil, but there are hints of tropical flower. Truly a great eye-opener (especially if you are like me, and drag yourself to the shower in the morning like a zombie!)

Imperfections: None! Fact!

Buy it… I hope you’ll love it too!

Review: Dead Sea Premier Luxury Facial Cleanser

A little over a month ago, I decided to swap out my known morning and night facial routine, and try a complete Dead Sea product routine.

The first, and perhaps most important part of this routine, was the Dead Sea Premier Luxury Facial Cleanser.

Basics: It is really creamy. Much more-so than I expected. The cleanser includes “micro grains” so I anticipated… well… more of a scrub feeling from it. Frankly, the “micro grains” were undetectable.

Dead Sea Premier Luxury Facial CleanserExtravagance: While the Facial Cleanser is very creamy, it rinses very clean – no greasy residue. My face felt clean the first time I used it. And, it takes make-up off effectively. I did not even have to use an eye make-up remover!

Imperfections: Of course, with any new skin care regimen, breakouts are more likely. I had made a 1-month commitment to the new routine, so I continued to use through the minor blemishes that occurred after about the third day.

My face cleared up quickly, and I carried on through the month. My skin was not clearer than when I started, and I still have some red marks where the blemishes were, though I never felt like my skin was not getting proper cleansing.

My husband is now using the product – and it goes a very, very long way – we still have about a third of the cleanser left!

I have since returned to my old face wash. For now, I’m not giving it up.

Next week I’ll fill you in on the next step of the trial routine!

Review: Adovia / SeaOra Foot Scrub

It’s raining outside. It’s winter. Who’s thinking about feet? Me. I have a theory that it is easier to have pretty sandal toes in the summer when you have secretly pretty winter feet. It’s all about maintenance. I’m just saying… even if you are the only person who knows, let’s keep the feet pretty!

Here’s how you can – SeaOra (okay, Adovia… I’ll get used to it) makes a delightful foot scrub.

SeaOra / Adovia Foot ScrubBasics: It’s made with Dead Sea Water (it’s true… listed second in the ingredients), and lots of hydrating goodness like Shea Butter, and calming stuffs like Aloe Vera and Chamomile… and of course, Dead Sea salt.

Extravagance: It’s a scrub and a moisturizer in one. You know how I love my double-duty products!! Plus it has a soothing smell. I can’t really explain it, but it reminds me of the smell of my Auntie’s house when I was a little girl – clean and feminine. (Men, don’t let the scent keep you from using this. You need soft feet as well!)

Imperfections: It’s messy; especially when you don’t plan ahead. For example, you are instructed to apply to clean, dry feet. Easy. Give yourself a loverly massage – in circular motions. Then rinse. Fine.

So, I set about to use this for the first time. I decided to make a full ped of the experience. I do maintenance on the toesies. I take a refreshing shower to get the nail polish remover residue off my feet. I’m happy. I dry my feet, and go about the massage. I sit on the edge of the bathtub, then I am faced with the predicament of how to keep my feet dry when the shower is still wet. No problem… I’ll just face out, feet on the floor. I get through one foot and realize that I’m not going to rest that one on the floor. A towel would work, but I didn’t think to grab one, and I don’t trust my hopping abilities. So, I straddle the edge of the tub, one foot in, the other ready for it’s delightful massage.

Um… I now have the scrub all over my hands, and have to squeeze more from the tube. I am making a right mess! Whatever, the tube is easily rinsed.

So, I take care of the business at hand… er, foot… and proceed to try to do a swivel to get the other foot into the tub without completely wrecking the experience altogether. Note to self: Do not use the shower curtain as leverage. Not stable.

Okay, feet back into tub. Water running… YIPES, feet back out of tub. Addendum to note to self: Let hot water find its way through 1930′s pipes before placing feet under stream.  Feet rinsed. Feet REALLY SOFT! YAY! Flash forward to husband taking a shower… yeah, shea butter is really slippery. Second Addendum to note to self:  I must stop leaving shower slick whenever I try a new product. I’m really not trying to kill him. I promise.

So, my point is this… the product is great. The instructions suck. Here’s my stab at new & improved instructions:

  1. Squeeze a generous amount of the foot scrub into a small container (that will now always be used for bathroom goodness). This will prevent sliming up the tube.
  2. Lay down a towel that spans from the toilet to the bathtub – preferably one that you don’t mind gooing.
  3. Fill your tub enough to cover your feet. Or, better yet, use one of those dish washing tubs (I think they have them at the 99 cent store) and place it next to you. Make the water a little warmer than you like so that if you indulge too long in your foot massage the water does not get too cold.
  4. Sit on the toilet seat (much more stable than the edge of the bathtub) and massage on in circular motions.
  5. Pad across your soft, towel-covered floor, and ease yourself onto the edge of the tub to rinse feet. I don’t recommend standing in the shower (read slippery note above)
  6. Scrub shower to prevent later dangers.

I’ve now used this several times, and lived to tell. (thankfully, so has my husband)

Review: Dead Sea Premier Aromatic Bath Crystals

Hello!

<a href=Dead Sea Premier aromatic bath crystals" title="Dead Sea Premier aromatic bath crystals" width="350" height="263" class="alignright size-full wp-image-44" />I had a rough day – work was fine (just really busy) and I’m recovering from an annoying cold that has left my body sore and feeling like I’ve been beaten with a big stick.

So, what better way to end the day than a nice meal and a soothing bath?

I started the tub, lit a candle and poured in the  recommended amount of Dead Sea Premier Aromatic Bath Salt Crystals. The bathroom was instantly infused with a very strong perfume. I knew this was going to be just what I needed….

Basics: These salts promise energizing and purifying effects. They are infused with lavender, eucalyptus, lemon and bergamot. They dissolved quickly, and thoroughly. Yay! Nothing is worse than sinking into your bath and being assaulted by a lot of sharp grainy bath salts.

Extravagance: Apparently you can also use the bath salts with a liquid soap as a scrub. I’ve used the Dead Sea Premier Body Scrub, and know that this is a wonderful “other” use for these bath salts.

Imperfections: I did not care for the scent. It was over-powering. I had a really hard time hunkering down and just enjoying the peace. Perhaps the cold made my sense of smell go wonky.

If you like a more perfumey smell,  this bath salt may be just the thing for you. It does not smell bad… just a little bit strong for my taste.

Would love to hear what you think of it!

In the meantime, I’m going to keep looking for just the right thing for relaxation!

Review: Dead Sea Premier Miracle Mask Noir

I’d like to think that I have some will-power, but being married has proven that, in my private life, I have none. Of course, I resist many urges, and any vices I may have can be excused with what I perceive to be choice. Still, many things go undone because I don’t have the will resist urges to do something better or more fun!

C’mon, I was a free-thinking, independent woman with a career and a social life! Who would care if my bedroom was less than clean or a bill was pushed to the last possible pay date because I needed a pair of shoes now?

My husband, on the other hand, is the epitome of will-power and self-discipline. He has a strict rule about not ruining a nice night by doing the dinner dishes, but you can rest assured that the dishes will be done first thing in the morning. He resists any urges he may have to be lazy and chooses to walk to the market rather than drive. CHOOSES!!. And, he will not walk through our bedroom doorway without doing pull-ups on the bar he strategically hung.

Is he crazy? Or is it me?

Well, I’m here to admit that I am the one with the problem… and I can prove it. I am a chronic picker! I cannot see a blemish on my face without giving in to my urge to attack it and perform surgery. Oh, the shame! Blackheads are my favorite. I know, I’m disgusting!

I don’t generally have urges to attack others because I do have a sense of decency and personal space… and even if I did; my self-loathing mandates at least some control.

So, in trying to be more like my sweet, dear husband, in this New Year, I am devoted to continuing on my journey of discovering my will-power!

As any addict will tell you, once you’ve admitted your affliction, it is a good idea to remove the temptation. This is where the aptly named Dead Sea Premier Miracle Mask Noir comes in.

<a href=Dead Sea Premier Miracle Mask Noir" width="300" height="225" align="left" />Basics: The Miracle Mask is a mud mask, with an element of exfoliant and toner. You use a slight scrubbing motion when applying, and your face will tingle a little. The application is a bit messy, but it cleans up nicely. The smell is a little medicinal – mostly a strong scent of eucalyptus, I think. Once you have removed the “mud”, you are left with a layer of oil on your skin that you will wash off with a gentle cleanser. Your skin will feel very soft, and look a little rosy.

Extravagance: The removal is the magic of this mask. The mud comes off with a “solid mud block” that magnetically (YES! MAGNETICALLY!) lifts the mud from your face… and takes with it the contents of every single blackhead. It’s true… clears every pore!

Imperfection: I can only use the mask on my chin and around my nose… the prime spots for blackheads. My cheeks and forehead are too prone to acne, and this product is definitely not for acne prone skin (it even says so on the bottle: “ALL SKIN EXCEPT ACNE”.) Further, it is really potent stuff… so I can’t use it more than every other week without upsetting my sensitive skin. The instructions recommend at least 60 hours between uses.

So far so good with my resolution. I have zero temptation. So, for today at least, my face is safe from my scanning eyes and tools of torture!

Review – Adovia Dead Sea Salt Scrub (Ocean Breeze) and Dead Sea Premier Milk and Honey Aromatic Body Butter

At the arm twisting of a friend, I recently read the first Twilight book. I’m too old for it. I know. I still liked it. So, when the movie came out, I really kinda wanted to go see it… then decided that I didn’t want to go to a theater full of tween and teen girls. You may think it is because I’m annoyed by them (which may be a little bit true), but really, the embarrassing truth is that I cannot stand going into a place full of clear skinned beauties… I don’t think my fragile old lady ego could take it.

I mostly jest, but it is true that keeping a youthful glow starts taking a lot more effort once you skip out of your twenties, and start stumbling toward your forties! That is why I am a fanatic about scrubs and moisturizers. Maybe it’s more than you wanted to know, but I have moisturized post-shower every day since I was in high school. I s’pose at the time I started it I didn’t really consider that it would help keep my skin younger looking. I just figured that scaly skin was icky. Now, it’s purely out of necessity. Ah, isn’t it grand to be pushing 40?!?

I think I’ve found a winning combo: Adovia /SeaOra Dead Sea Salt Scrub, Ocean Breeze & Dead Sea Premier Milk and Honey Aromatic Body Butter.

<a href=Dead Sea Premier Body Butter" title="Dead Sea Premier Body Butter" width="225" align="left" />

The Basics: Both smell really nice. The scrub smells a little strong initially, though it is quite pleasant. After the shower, the smell doesn’t linger on too much. If you’ve never used a scrub, this is a nice one to start with. I like to do a full scrub before taking on the chore of shaving. It works to soften the skin, and I think it really makes for a smoother leg.

The Extravagance: The body butter is subtle and light. It’s not a greasy lotion, as many body butters are. It absorbs quickly, and it doesn’t leave you feeling all slick. And it works. I decided to do a sort of “taste” test, and asked my husband and my mom to try it. My husband quite liked it, and has agreed to let me give him a facial next. Don’t judge. He’s a very manly man. My mother… whom I think you can imagine is a tough one to please… loved the lotion (yay for birthday gift ideas!!). The best part is that all three of us have really awkward body chemistries… I mean, each of us have independently complained that something that smells wonderful in the jar smells awful on us, but not this time. The Milk & Honey actually didn’t create a bio-chemical hazard for any of us!

The Imperfections: Can’t really think of one… though I think next time I’m going to try this scrub instead: Adovia / SeaOra Dead Sea Salt Scrub, Coconut Vanilla

While I know that this is not my key to fitting in with the tweens, it is nice to have these luxuries now that I’m a little older. I imagine being… well, my age… is cool enough. And I can afford better shoes!

Review: Dead Sea Premier Professional Peeling Mask

I love… and I mean LOVE the Dead Sea Premier Professional Peeling Mask. I’ve been using this stuff for almost a year now… sometimes twice a week, and sometimes months in between. It’s a use-it-as-you-need-it, you-can-always-rely-on-it, perfect-solution mask. Do I oversell? Maybe, but I’m going on record with the fact that it has saved me from many gnarly stress, pre-menstrual and environmental acne attacks.

Here’s the basics: It doesn’t have a terrible odor, it’s low-maintenance to use (just apply the mud, let it dry and rub/crumble it off with your fingers), it clears up blemishes, eases up red and irritated skin, and comes with a lightly scented smoothing gel that leaves your skin glowing.

Dead Sea Premier Peeling MaskHere’s the extravagance: The packaging is cool in that the mask and gel are in one jar – the lid has a separate lid within to contain the gel.

And here’s the imperfection: Meh, the plastic the lid is made from is a little fragile. Just be careful not to let your slippery hands destroy your coveted mask.

Also, my mom pointed out that she feels morbid using this product line – “Dead” Sea Premier feels a little uncomfortable to her. LOL! I’ll give you that the name is a little off-putting… but when something works, I think we can get past it, right?

Call me over zealous, but I’m sprung on this mask! And don’t take my word for it; try it yourself!
